Stan Soocher
is Associate Professor of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies (MEIS) at the University of Colorado Denver, where he has served as MEIS Chair. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Entertainment Law & Finance, an American Lawyer Media publication he has helmed since its start in 1985. In addition, Stan is an entertainment attorney and author of the critically acclaimed book "They Fought the Law: Rock Music Goes to Court," which he is currently revising for an updated edition.

Stan has given speeches on entertainment law in Austin, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, Miami, Orlando, North Carolina, Atlanta and Washington State, among other locations. He has received ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards for excellence in music journalism, including for music law articles in Rolling Stone and The National Law Journal. Stan's articles have also appeared in The New York Law Journal, The Los Angeles Times Syndicate, Billboard Magazine, The Los Angeles Daily Journal, Writer's Digest and The Miami Herald, among other publications. For many years, he covered the federal appeals courts in a weekly section for The National Law Journal. Early in his career, Stan worked as an associate editor for the rock magazine Circus.

Stan holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from the University of Florida and a J.D. from New York Law School. He also is a drummer and writes songs.
